Meet Dr Johanna McFadgen

Bachelor of Chiropractic Science (Macquarie University)

Master of Chiropractic (Macquarie University)

Hi, I’m Dr. Johanna McFadgen, a chiropractor with over 18 years of experience, passionate about providing patient-centred, low-force chiropractic care. I completed my Bachelor of Chiropractic Science in 2003 and my Masters of Chiropractic in 2005 at Macquarie University. Over the years, I’ve worked in multidisciplinary clinics across Sydney and the Central Coast, collaborating with physiotherapists, naturopaths, massage therapists, and GPs to deliver holistic care.

My journey into chiropractic began in high school. I was a sporty teenager, involved in swimming and softball, and initially envisioned a career in physiotherapy after an inspiring work experience placement at the State Sports Centre in Homebush. That changed when I observed a friend receive a chiropractic adjustment and experienced its holistic benefits firsthand. I’ve been passionate about chiropractic care ever since.

I have a special interest in treating kids, families, and seniors, with a focus on paediatrics, pregnancy, peri-menopause, menopause, and geriatric care. I use gentle techniques such as Activator, Sacro-Occipital Technique (SOT), Webster’s Technique, and acupuncture, always tailoring my care to meet each patient’s unique needs.

Outside the clinic, I’m a busy wife and mum to three active boys. Since moving to the Central Coast five years ago, I’ve embraced the sea change, enjoying beach walks, swimming, and my new favorite hobby—playing Pickleball on weekends. At home, my two cats bring balance to my bustling household.

With a holistic, empathetic approach, I’m committed to helping patients of all ages feel their best and achieve long-term wellness.

What to expect from a Chiropractic Treatment

Assessment of Your Problem

We will take a proper and detailed history, and listen carefully to your answers. We will get to the bottom of what happened and why.

A Clear Explanation

It is crucial for you to understand what is going on and why. We will take the time to help you understand your issues and how they can be prevented or improved.

X-Rays Only if Required

If your issues require X-Rays or an MRI, we will refer you. We will then go through the results with you and help you understand what they mean. We will show you the pictures and explain them in simple terms.

Skilled Hands On Care

You will receive hands on Chiropractic care, which may include myofascial (muscle and fascia) therapy, hands on or instrument assisted adjustments, and other therapies. We will not beat you up or perform dangerous procedures.

Homework

The best results come out of team work. There will likely be lifestyle changes, advice on footwear or posture, exercises to do at home. Don’t think we’re going to do all the work!

Prompt Referral if Required

Treatment always starts with a “Trial of Care”. If treatment doesn’t create the improvement we expect, or if we don’t think Chiropractic care will help you, we will promptly find someone who can help you, and point you in the right direction.

Dr McFadgen has a special interest in treating:

  • Kids and Families: Care for children and family members of all ages.
  • Geriatric Care: Compassionate treatment for seniors to enhance mobility and overall wellbeing.
  • Sports injuries and sports performance
  • Peri-Menopause and Menopause: Focused care to address the unique needs of women during hormonal transitions.
  • Paediatrics and Pregnancy: Gentle techniques tailored to support children’s development and expectant mothers.

What should I bring to my consultation?

  • We will collect a lot of information from you via a secure online form. If online forms are a bit hard for you, you can arrive 15 minutes early and provide your health information on paper.
  • If you have X-Rays or scans and you have a copy of the scans or reports, bring them. If the scans are with one of the Central Coast radiology providers, we can probably access them online (with your permission), so no need to bring films from PRP, iMed or Coast Medical Imaging.
  • Wear comfortable clothes that are easy to move around in. Sometimes it is necessary to expose parts of your back, arms or legs, so please don’t forget to wear undies!
  • If you have a long list of medications (and it’s too extensive to easily type into the online form), bring them on paper. If your GP has provided you with a health summary, or any paperwork, bring that and we will scan it into your file.

Dr Jo McFadgen is now accepting new and returning patients in our West Gosford clinic.
